A: It depends on how your phones are being put in place. If, like many people, you use a standard wireless phone system where a basic phone plugs into a standard phone jack in the wall and the other transmitted wirelessly from the base unit, your phone should work exactly the same with a VoIP system once you plug the base unit into your VoIP adapter.

If the four phones currently taking in their own wall sockets, you have two options for multiple phones. If your phones are in separate rooms, you can use wireless phone jacks, also known as catch mobile phone to connect your phone through the electrical wiring in your home. A main base plugs into the VoIP adapter, and expansion ports and individual for each phone plug into outlets around the home. This can cause interference problems or audio, but is simpler than other options.

Splitters are another possibility, if you do not mind dealing with son passing from room to room. A splitter connects to the VoIP telephone jack and provides multiple phone ports, which you can then use to connect a number of phones.

Finally, you can use your existing telephone wiring to route your VoIP service throughout your home. This option is best if you live in a house like rewire can cause problems for other residents in an apartment or condo. To do this, you need to separate your wiring system house outside of the phone company and connect to the VoIP adapter. This change is reversible. Although you can do it yourself wiring, an electrician can help in the process. Check with your VoIP provider to see if they can recommend an electrician or other professional. VoIP providers can also provide resources to help you do the same rewiring. Some VoIP providers do not recommend rewiring your house because traditional telephone son carry a charge which can sometimes damage the VoIP equipment. If you think a Vonage service, click here to read our blog on the use of your existing home wiring with Vonage for more detailed information on rewiring.

If you just need an extra plug the adapters of some VoIP providers have more than one phone port, including one of our best options, VOIPo, which provides adapter two telephone ports.

Long story short, many phones are very doable with VoIP, but you may want to switch to a wireless system, since all, the simplest solution is probably to use a main base and a number of cordless handsets rather than installing a splitter, rewire the house, or use wireless extensions.
