With the generation baby boomers now firmly in their 50 and 60, the elderly have become one of the fastest growing demographics for online dating. Men and women who have divorced, lost a partner to death, or just never married are flocking to sites like Match.com, eHarmony and Chemistry.com in record numbers. In a 2010 survey found that eHarmony online dating is the most popular way for people over 50 to meet and marry.
Many other researchers report similar trends eHarmony saw. A report by Nielsen / NetRatings recently announced that users aged over 55 accounted for 16.7% of all traffic to online dating sites, while another study called 50+ segment subscriber group for the fastest growing online dating.
The elderly, like other online daters, finding that the current crop of popular dating sites allow them to meet and communicate with a large pool of dating interesting people. Tools that let you search by age and location helps daters refine their results just people they would be interested in meeting, and secure tools like email and IM in the site let communicate all safety with new people without sharing too much personal information too soon.
