A: Let's start with the standard 911. All VoIP providers are now required to provide their E911 users, or improved service 911. This means that not only the VoIP subscribers able to call 911, but companies must also do their best to convey the physical address of the caller, just like a traditional phone system would be. For this to work, customers must register their physical addresses with VoIP company every time they move. The provider maintains the register, and transmits relevant information to emergency services if necessary.

all the cities or counties not currently provide reverse 911, but where it is available, reverse 911 allows emergency service providers such as police or fire department to contact the residents of an area emergency requiring prudence or evacuation. For example, in the case of a major gas leak, the fire department might call all inhabitants of a particular area to begin an evacuation or to warn against going to the leak. 911 as regular service, this account on the emergency services with information about the physical addresses corresponding to that of telephone numbers.

Unlike a standard 911, 911 reverse records are kept by each individual county. To receive reverse 911 notifications on your VoIP or mobile phone line, you must register your number with the emergency services in your area. Call your emergency service police or local service to see if this service is available in your area and how to register your phone number if you want to opt.

Remember that VoIP does not work in the event of a failure of the Internet or power, so that you can keep a cell phone nearby as a backup in case of emergency .
