Q: Do I need backup cloud and an external hard drive to my new computer, or will I be OK with just cloud backup or just a disk external backup hard? I have an iMac.
A : Cloud backup is the best choice. The difference between backup and cloud backup external hard drive is the difference between the virtual and the physical. With cloud backup your important files, music and images will be saved via the Internet to an untrusted secured site location against fire, viruses, hard drive failures and other potential problems. Although an external hard drive is a great way to back up your files there, if something should happen to your hard drive ... say you dropped it stopped working and there was a flood or fire your files will be lost. Because of this, we recommend cloud backup (or "online backup") to protect your files. You can use both online backup and an external hard drive, but we do not think it is necessary that back online is safe and secure.
There are a few major online backup solutions for Mac available, including Carbonite and Mozy. Or if you're not sure exactly what you need, try our online backup Selector, which will make recommendations based on your requirements.
