After May 6, popular Verizon phone and Internet provider will not offer "naked" DSL or "dry-loop" forcing customers to buy new fixed telephone servic e along their DSL Internet service. Existing customers who have dry loop DSL will be allowed to keep their service as it is, provided they do not change anything about their existing contracts after the company falls dry loop DSL.
This change seems designed to make it more difficult for new Verizon customers to use the VoIP service because they will be forced to keep their fixed telephone service or to find a service provider alternative Internet. Verizon customers using their FiOS Internet Service fibers should purchase a standard telephone service, but the fiber connections are not available in all areas and may be more expensive, because they are usually greater speed.
With low rates and expanded features, the VoIP phone service has gained significant popularity in recent years, despite the efforts of traditional telephone companies to retain customers. If you currently have DSL and Verizon phone service and have thought to spend your home phone to VoIP, you have about one month to file your fixed telephone service before this decision takes effect May 6 Take a look at our comparison chart or read some individual comments to get an idea of whether VoIP service might be right for you.
