A: This depends on how the functionality of the credit report monitoring service. Some, like Identity Guard Total protection®, provide both monitoring credit report and identity theft protection. This means that if your identity is stolen while you are a member you get using the Identity Theft Assistance Center to help recover your good name and clear your credit report. There is no additional cost for this service. Other credit monitoring services primarily monitor your credit reports and let you know if there are changes; they do not correct errors.
It is smart to be aware of what is on your credit reports anytime. If you subscribe to a credit report monitoring service which provides you with 3 credit reports, as our nominal top Privacy Guard, you must go through each of them with a fine tooth comb. When you have your reports carefully examine all; your past and present addresses, credit lines, all legal items like bankruptcy, your name, etc. If you see any incorrect information, it could be one of two things. Or it could be a real mistake, or it could be someone using your identity to the benefit (ie, identity theft).
If it is a genuine mistake, you will need to contact the credit bureaus separately delete your credit report.
